A journey is filled with adventures and pleasure! However, in the heat of the moment, we don’t always stop to ask what is covered or not by our travel insurance policy.
To ensure you are well protected, we suggest a short quiz about travel insurance. Enhance your knowledge on this topic in this article.

A medical travel insurance policy is there to cover you in the event of a sudden and unforeseen medical situation.
By participating in certain activities or willingly exposing yourself to certain risks, you may later find out that your claim is denied.
Let’s take the time to demystify some situations that are often the subject of questions to our Tour+Med customer service agents.
Is it covered?
1. You are a mountain hiking enthusiast and decide to go hiking in the state of Vermont, United States, with your family. Are you covered by your travel medical insurance in case of an accident?
Generally, yes, your insurance policy will cover you. However, if it involves a competitive sport, speed, an extreme activity, or a sport for which you need to sign a liability waiver, it will not be covered.
Refer to the Exclusions and Limitations section of the policy for details.
2. You are celebrating your wedding or anniversary down South and have had a few too many drinks. You break your arm and need to go to the emergency room for this reason. Is an accident resulting from alcohol abuse covered?
If your blood alcohol level is higher than 80 mg/100 ml, the medical condition occurring during your trip will not be covered. The abuse of drugs or intoxicating substances will have the same result.
3. You plan to go snorkeling on your next cruise in the Caribbean. Is it covered?
If it is indeed snorkeling (not scuba diving), an accident during a surface diving activity will be covered by your medical insurance policy. However, if you have to sign a liability waiver before engaging in this activity, it will not be covered.
4. You are preparing for your next off-piste skiing excursion and wonder if an accident would be covered.
Unfortunately, this adrenaline rush, although enjoyable, is not covered under our medical insurance policy. All risky behavior is excluded from coverage.

5. You are pregnant and want to know if you and your baby will be covered by your medical policy during a trip.
We are pleased to inform you that you are, under certain conditions. According to the “Exclusions and Limitations” section of the policy, any expenses incurred due to any of the following elements will be excluded from coverage:
- Your routine prenatal or postnatal care;
- Fertility treatments;
- Voluntary termination of pregnancy;
- Your pregnancy, childbirth, or resulting complications when they occur within the nine (9) weeks before or after the due date;
- The child born during your trip.
6.You are going on a humanitarian trip to Africa. Is it covered?
Unfortunately, it is not. Our product is not designed to meet the complex needs of humanitarian workers, who are typically in locations where healthcare is more difficult to access.
7. Captivated by your trip to Cuba, you decide to ride a moped without your helmet. Is it covered?
Renting a moped is allowed, but not wearing a helmet would result in an exclusion in the event of an accident or injury. Any activity that does not comply with safety instructions or warning signs is not covered by your travel medical insurance policy.
